Daily Advent Reading

This is our Digital Advent Calendar for 2023. We would hope you could join in daily during the season of Advent. Every day’s Advent Gift box will have a new Scripture to read and reflect on. Every Thursday there will be a Children’s Ministry Activity for you and your children. Every Tuesday there will be a question for adults to enjoy and engage on our Facebook page.

Micah 5:1-6

1 Marshal your troops now, city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod.

2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor bears a son, and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites.

4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.

5 And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. We will raise against them seven shepherds, even eight commanders,

6 who will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword. He will deliver us from the Assyrians when they invade our land and march across our borders.

Devotional

As a follower of Jesus, I can only imagine a world with Christ on the throne and everyone acknowledging His authority. In that world there is no more darkness. There is no more confusion. There is no more pain. There is no more sin. In the 6th verse of today’s reading, the prophet speaks of a shepherd who will change life for God’s people forever. He was not just speaking of a leader who would have the qualities of the Messiah; Micah was speaking of the Jesus Christ Himself!

This ruler would not only be for the people of Israel, but the Messiah’s “greatness will reach to the ends of the earth” (v. 4). When He comes again, He will reign forever.

  • Prayer: Wonderful Counselor, we worship You, for You are wise. Mighty God, we fear You, for You are omnipotent. Everlasting Father, we obey You, for You are loving. Prince of Peace, we thank You, for You deliver us from sin. Amen.
