WORSHIP MINISTRY
First Methodist Church of Oviedo welcomes you to participate in worship as a leader in a variety different ways.
-
Usher
Before, during and after worship services. Ushers help welcome people into a time of worship by greeting them, offering bulletin information and assistive devices! Saturdays 5:45 p.m. | Sundays 8:00, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m.
Contemporary Music Volunteer
If you’d like to become part of our awesome Praise Team and Praise Band, here are a few things you need to know:
Participation in Worship Services
We have two contemporary worship services. When you are assigned to sing or play you will be participating in both worship services (Saturday nights at 6pm and Sunday mornings at 9:30am).
Vocalists and band members arrive early on Saturdays (4:30pm) and Sundays (8:30am) for a warm-up and run-through of all music.
Rehearsals
Band and Praise Team both rehearse on Thursdays.
Vocal rehearsal begins at 6pm.
Combined rehearsal (with band and vocalists) from 7pm – 8:30pm.
Expectations
Praise Team and Band Members are responsible for purchasing their own in-ear monitors. We can help you find the best ones. Most people spend between $40-$60.
Praise Team and Band Members are responsible for listening to and learning all of the music ahead of time and coming to rehearsals prepared.
Most band members and praise team members sing and/or play every other week.
Those who serve, should be striving to grow and be more like Christ, in how they carry themselves in and out of church.
Traditional Music Volunteer
Make a joyful noise with your voice and/or instrument! If you have an interest in joining the Choir at our Traditional Service, or the Praise Team or Band at the Contemporary Service.

Commit to a monthly rhythm to volunteer. (And let us know if your plans change.)
Show up with energy and be ready to smile.
Go the extra mile as often as possible, so every student (and especially first-time guests) feels like a VIP.
Look for and engage with students who may be new, lost, or alone.
Clearly communicate directions around the church, next steps for new students, and the basic structure of the ministry program.
Make sure every student goes through the check-in process.
Say goodbye to students as they leave.
Youth Small Group Leader
Invest in a group of students by creating a safe place for conversations to help them develop an authentic faith. Sundays 5:45 p.m.
Be Present
Show up predictably—as in every Sunday.
Show up mentally—like leaving your phone in your pocket so you can focus on your group.
Show up randomly—even outside of the church building.
Create a Safe Place
Lead the group—you are aware of the dynamic at play and how you can impact them.
Respect the process—because students will show up at all different points in their faith journey.
Guard their hearts—you may be in a unique space to hear when students are cared for and when they may not be.
Make It Personal
Live in community—because this small group of students isn’t your small group of adults.
Set priorities—so you’re valuing your own faith and relationships.
Be real—because students know when you’re pretending to be someone you’re not.
Youth Food Service Team
Provide food for students so they feel comfortable, cared for, and can focus on connecting with their youth group.
Provide solutions for food allergies, so every student feels like a VIP.
Prepare and serve food while maintaining a clean environment.
Replenish out-of-stock items and assist with clean-up.
Attend appropriate training events and adhere to food safety policies and guidelines.
