Daily Advent Reading

This is our Digital Advent Calendar for 2023. We would hope you could join in daily during the season of Advent. Every day’s Advent Gift box will have a new Scripture to read and reflect on. Every Thursday there will be a Children’s Ministry Activity for you and your children. Every Tuesday there will be a question for adults to enjoy and engage on our Facebook page.

Advent Question of the Week

Candy canes and peppermint have long been a tradition of the advent season.

Do you have a peppermint Christmas recipe that you would like to share?

Find our Tuesday Advent post on Facebook and post your recipe there so we can all share in its goodness!

2 Samuel 7:12-16

“ ‘The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you:

12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.

15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you.

16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ ”

Devotional

Often like David our plans are much too small. God told Nathan that nothing in the heavens above or on the earth below could be big enough to house the Lord. He is the God who moves with His people wherever they might go, wherever they might be. In truth, He is the God who is everywhere at once. How could any building or structure mere be the God’s residence?

God promised that His love would never leave David. The Lord’s promise to be the father of His children would be fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. The statement “I will be his father, and he will be my son” shone a light on the coming of Jesus as God’s Son, our Savior. That’s real love.

  • Prayer: Savior and Lord, Your work of salvation is vast and comprehensive. Help us to embrace the tremendous gift of Your faithful love for us in Christ today. Amen!
