Daily Advent Reading

This is our Digital Advent Calendar for 2023. We would hope you could join in daily during the season of Advent. Every day’s Advent Gift box will have a new Scripture to read and reflect on. Every Thursday there will be a Children’s Ministry Activity for you and your children. Every Tuesday there will be a question for adults to enjoy and engage on our Facebook page.

Luke 1:46-55

46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
47     and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49     for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
    holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
    from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

Devotional

In His grace and mercy, God lifts up humble servants like Mary. As overwhelming as we think the news from God’s angel might be, Mary glorifies and rejoices in the Lord. She does that because through the child she will bear, Jesus, God will bring salvation from sin to the whole world.

Many of our songs today—even our Christian songs—focus more on us: what we do, what we need, and how we act. It’s important that we focus on God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Savior—and all that He has done for us.

Prayer

Loving and gracious God, thank You for Mary’s song. It is a reminder to all of us that our faith is all about You. We glorify and praise You for Your great mercy to us. Holy is Your name. Amen.
